She may only be 16 but Lil Simz is fighting to get female rappers recognized! Simz is already known to thousands of teens for playing Vicki in the recent CBBC series “Spirit Warriors”, a children’s adventure series, which also aired on BBC2.

Lil Simz, whose real name is Simbi Ajikawo, said: “It’s hard for a female to break through. But it’s not just boys who can rap. Girls can do it as well.”

Lil Simz, the youngest of four siblings, lives with her foster Mum in north London. She first started rapping when she was just nine. Now Simz has performed at under-18s raves where fellow performers have included N-Dubz, Chipmunk, Ms Dynamite and Tinchy Stryder, and she has only just started!

She recently launched her online video for debut single “Fall to the Floor” which is getting a phenomenal response with comments such as “this is 222222biiiiiig…Simz = future of female mc’s!!!!” and “gheeezzzee this girl is on her way 2 winning dat MOBO!!!!!!!!! Gwarn! The video is set in a house party, Skins style, with the dance routine choreographed by Simz and her friends. “It’s a really commercial dance song and it’s kind of the definition of fun,” Lil Simz said. “Every time I play it, I just want to dance!”.

She’s now in talks with record labels and has a promising career ahead of her, as those talents don’t stop at rapping, acting or dancing… her follow up single “Nike Shoes” was also produced by Simz herself. She said: “I want to say thank you to all the people who have been supporting me, I want to be a positive icon for the younger generation.” She adds, “I would like to help change the community and the society we live in, by doing this with my rhymes, lyrical content and poetic ability.”

Simz is currently in the middle of her GCSE exams and knows the importance of study, but she is excited about the summer before she starts college, with performances at key industry showcase such as “I Luv Live” as well as end of term U18 events and festivals all in the pipeline.
