Ironik’s career started early as he was a DJ in clubs from the age of 13. His first single, ‘So Nice’ was Released in summer of 2007. The song was popular across the music channels, including remaining in the top 3 of the viewer request chart on Channel U for 20 weeks.
For a lot of people, Ironik led the scene using MySpace and youtube to reach out to fans – in fact that was how he got his record deal after millions of people were listening to ‘Stay With Me’ on the internet. At 20, Ironik signed with Atlantic/Warner UK/ Asylum Records.
‘Stay With Me’ went into the charts at number 11 on downloads alone, then number five on its physical release. It equally had success on Channel U, remaining in the request chart top 10 for 26 weeks. The remix to ‘Stay with Me’ features Chipmunk and Asylum label-mate Wiley. The second single, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ was released in September, 2008 and reached number 35 in the UK and number 10 in download charts.
His success was clear in 2008 with nominations for Best Newcomer at the MOBO Awards and Best Newcomer and Best Music Video at the 2008 Urban Music Awards. He was voted by the viewers of MTV UK as The third favorite artist of the year 2008, coming after Katy Pearl and Duffy, as well as a nomination for Best Male Music in Film at the Screen Nation Film & TV Awards in November.
